What To Do In Uncertain Times

What To Do In Uncertain Times

 April 6, 2020

These past few weeks of being quarantined in our homes due to COVID-19 have meant uncharted waters for us all. So I'm taking my 15 years of work-at-home experience (13 of them with kiddos by my side) and addressing how we may be feeling… and don’t worry, I have loads of advice to encourage you on what you can take action on to bring some normalcy and sanity to our homes and lives during these uncertain times!

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Tips for staying encouraged on a personal level:

  • Get rest and then GET UP (especially before your kids)
  • Get ready (shower, get dressed, brush your teeth, etc.)
  • Exercise (and get outside if you can)
  • Read your bible, your devotional or meditate (get centered and connect with God)
  • “Eat that frog” (do the worst task first and the rest of the day is gravy)
  • Consume books/courses to invest in yourself (LOADS are being offered for free)

Tips for staying encouraged on a professional level:

  • Set new goals (consider setting quarterly goals instead of yearly goals)
  • Narrow your goals (are they obtainable? Do you have a stretch goal?)
  • Ask yourself if your business model is working (Sell on different platforms?)
  • Get to making or sourcing (offer a new product or service)
  • Do the CEO work (how to plan and save for times like this)
  • Block your time (time yourself and your tasks, then block things in your schedule)
  • “Eat that frog” (do the worst task first and the rest of the day is gravy)
  • Consume books/courses to invest in yourself (LOADS are being offered for free)

Tips for your Home and Family:

  • Set up a schedule
  • Involve kids in chores, cooking, etc.
  • Allow for free time (and “me” time for yourself)
  • Read devotionals with kids and memorize scriptures
  • Go for walks, runs, rides outside
  • Limit screen time (we do 30 minutes at a time, limited to 4 per day)
  • Reward good behavior
  • Don’t discipline the behavior, look at the heart issue
  • Encourage artistic/creative time
  • Get to know your child
  • Plan a “home” date night (go for a walk/drive, movie/show time when kids are in bed)
  • Play board games (especially before you grab a remote)
  • Make a list of house projects, chores, cleaning, organizing
  • Spousal business meeting
  • Budget (write one or re-evaluate to scale back and save, if necessary)
