My secret weapon for generating more revenue with my business, Rebekah Scott Designs, has been recording and posting videos to our Facebook page! I was recently selected for a feature in Handmade Magazine about this very topic so I wanted to share with you how videos have changed my business and my bottom line.
Why video?
- Non-verbal cues communicate who you are in a more authentic way!
- This increases your trustworthiness with your customers.
Practice, practice, practice!
- The more you practice, the better you get!
- Write down your main talking points.
- Keep your videos short (2-3 minutes or less).
Tips.
- Be brief, if you can. (Unless you are doing a live-shopping event.)
- Don’t use filler words like “um” and “uh”.
- When doing a Live event, start RIGHT AWAY… don’t wait for people to tune in!
- Be authentic and leave your “real life” in your videos as much as possible! (Watch this Facebook live video of my daughter, Rozzi. She starts putting on makeup at the 3 minute mark… it’s hysterical!)
- Record videos about your favorites and tell us why!
- Record what inspires you and tell us why!
- Record WHERE you feel inspired and tell us why! Change up the background to keep things interesting.

Logistics
- I record with my iPhone.
- It’s easier if someone is in the studio with me and can help, but I do have this tripod I can use to hold the camera steady.
- I just started using this lavalier microphone to help with sound quality.
- I have a lot of natural light in my studio so I don’t fuss over this too much. Depending on your product or service, you may want to look into this!
Stats
- Look at your stats after you post your videos to see how they are performing.
- We do a Facebook Live event at least twice a week and post 3-5 videos per week to our Facebook page.
- We started doing Facebook Live Shopping events (usually on Mondays at noon) that has generated over $3,000 in sales!
- We did a “12 Days of Christmas” event last year with LOADS of giveaways that was shared 3,238 times, commented on 5,364 times and had a total reach of 485,048! Our video minutes viewed jumped 515% from the previous 15 days and video views went up 296% from the previous 15 days! We got 313 new email subscribers and 426 new Facebook page likes too!
