A Heart for Him with guest Anna Friese
July 23, 2018
I recently read a book called “A Heart for Him” which details a mother’s journey through the loss of her infant daughter, Ivy. This “horribly beautiful” story hit home for me, as my family has been through the pain of losing my brother, Philip, to suicide 4 years ago (almost to the day that this episode airs). I had the honor of speaking with the author, Anna Friese, and we both hope this episode brings you comfort and encourages you to trust God’s purpose and plan, even through devastating loss and heartache.
Anna and her husband, Steve, lost their infant daughter, Ivy, at only 8 months of age. Through the encouragement of friends, Anna wrote a book that details their life and journey through this overwhelming loss. Anna beautifully weaves together scripture, her thoughts and feelings, and Facebook posts that updated family and friends while they kept vigil at Ivy’s bedside during the final moments of her life.
Here is an excerpt from Anna’s Facebook page:
“Steve knelt down by the side of Ivy’s hospital bed and began to pray. The room was full of friends and family saying their last god-bye. The doctors and nurses weeping with us.
Many would recall that prayer and mention it to Steve. Words he spoke but could not remember. Nor could I. Seemingly lost to that moment or to memory for some.
Until one day, during the conversation, a friend had the courage to share with us that during that moment, that final good-bye with Ivy, he felt compelled to press record on his phone…
What he captured that morning was meant for the final pages of the book.”
To connect with Anna or to order a copy of her book, please email her at email@example.com. Copies are also sold at Crossroads Book & Music in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. You can also post your thoughts on the “A Heart for Him” Facebook page.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book go to The Ivy House in New Ulm, Minnesota. This mission was started by a friend of Anna and Steve’s, who told them God had been prompting her to so do for years. Ivy’s story through Anna’s book is ultimately a ministry tool for the volunteers and will help with funding future crisis houses across the country. In fact, the final amount needed for the down payment of The Ivy House was the exact amount Steve and Anna had in the memorial fund they had started for Ivy. God made it clear to the Friese's that the money should go toward The Ivy House! For more information or to donate to the Southern Minnesota Crisis Nursery, please click here.
We are ALWAYS taking prayer requests… if there’s something on your heart, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will gladly stand in prayer with you!
